14 October @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
You are hereby invited by the Corrosion Institute of Southern Africa to a Gauteng Region Technical Presentation
“Tendencies and rates in corrosion “
Professor Roelf Sandenbergh
“Thermodynamics provide the framework for considering the reactions involved in corrosion but it is the rate of corrosion that is of practical interest. In this talk the lure and limitations of use of thermodynamics and kinetics to predict the long term durability of metals will be explored. The safe storage of nuclear waste and pitting corrosion will be used as examples to illustrate the challenges involved.
Roelf Sandenbergh is a professor at the University of Pretoria in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering involved in teaching and research in corrosion engineering. He is a Professional Engineer and previously served on the Council of the Corrosion Institute of Southern Africa.”
