Silver Medal Award

Prior to 2009 the Silver Medal Award was awarded to outstanding presenters of Technical Meetings.

The papers presented at the Technical Meetings of the Institute (from July to the end of June the following year) were assessed for their written and oral components. Two competent independent assessors (appointed by the local branch committee before the presentation) judged each paper when presented and filled in an assessment form.

In order to qualify for the award, the paper had to be original in the sense that it was not previously presented in the same or similar form, and a written paper had to be submitted. Only papers rated at 60% or higher were considered for the award.

From 2009 the Silver Medal Award will be presented for "Service to the Corrosion Industry".

There are many people who have spent their lifetime in the industry and make significant contributions in their own field without making a song and dance about it. These are people who are not Gold Medal stars, not necessarily Honourary Life Member candidates, may not necessarily even be members of the Corrosion Institute. The intent is to recognise people who have served the industry wiith passion and dedication throughout their working lives. Nominations are to be submitted with a 1 page citation for the person being nominated.
